Support Us

The DSSA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that offers low-cost sailing opportunities to all members of the Duluth-Superior community. We are a volunteer-run organization; membership fees alone do not cover our operating costs, and we rely on donations of time and money to make our programs possible!

Here are some ways you can help:

Volunteer

We’re always looking for an extra pair of hands! Whether it’s helping to maintain our fleet, organize a fundraiser, or greet community members during one of our open houses, volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, and volunteering is a fun way to meet other members of the DSSA! Please contact us to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Financial Support & Corporate Sponsorship

Support our mission by donating money for equipment, scholarships, and instructor salaries. All donations are tax deductible. You can write us a check, or donate online with PayPal. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

We also encourage sponsors, and have special corporate programs available, including logos on sails as the boats sail the harbor, pier activities, and matching funds.

Donate Supplies

We appreciate all donations of boats, boat parts, and other equipment. If we can’t use it ourselves, donated items might find a new home through our fundraising auction in the spring (see below). Some of our current needs (although this is far from a complete list!) include:

  • Spare boat hardware (we’re hoping to re-rig the Solings)
  • Heated winter storage area where we can work on some of the boats
  • Equipment locker built to our plans (great project for a service club!)
  • Scholarship funding to support lessons for low-income youth

Silent Auction

A Silent Auction is always part of our Annual Spring Dinner, and is a major fundraiser for our organization. You can support the DSSA by attending the auction, volunteering to help run the action, or by donating a boat, equipment, or other item. Your help is what makes it possible for us to offer our programs to the community! Contact us to volunteer, donate, or get more information.
